Thought of the Day

On Tuesday, the United States moved to buy stakes worth up to $250 billion in the nation's nine leading banks, an operation that closely mirrored British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's decision Monday to partly nationalize three struggling banks, according to The Christian Science Monitor which said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I am reminded, however, of the Peter Principle, named after Dr. Laurence Peter who wrote with Raymond Hill in 1968 a book under this title. The principle is that "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence." Gordon Brown was a very effective secretary of the treasury and a poor prime minister. So it may be that he rose to his level of incompetence; his only clever decision as prime minister being a financial one.

Dear Jihad,

With no access to your personal email, I've had to resort to posting my case to you on your blog….so I apologize for that, and for the fact that my request deviates from your most recent areas of pursuit …

I'm a Palestinian by origin, who's inherited a Lebanese document of travel from my parents, who was born and raised in the UAE and who now carries a Canadian Passport but now find myself trying to assert my " Palestinian-ness" to fellow Arabs, who regrettably no longer view the Israeli conflict as an Arab affliction, as is the prevalent sentiment, and further argue that I have no claim on my Palestinian identity since Palestine is slowly eroding from the map, and I have never set foot in Palestine, and don’t have anything tangible to assert my Palestinian ethnicity save my UNRWA I.D card.

So what makes a person Palestinian? Or Lebanese, Chinese, Algerian, etc for that matter? Is it a passport? Or a dialect? Or a set of traditions? Or is it a blood line? Baring in mind, that time, assimilation into other societies and intermarriage alter these affinities generation after generation…

Ultimately, SMEs, in particular, can benefit from evaluating their warehouse processes in this economic climate by strategically identifying the actual unit costs across the entire warehouse process. By identifying where WMS performance can be enhanced through the implementation of an enterprise software system, they can identify the greatest areas of expenditure in relation to inventory, space and transport planning and reduce costs in order to justify the initial and ongoing management expenses involved. The results may initially seem alarming; but with a strategic focus on why overheads are high, companies can determine how the inventory management process can be controlled with automated systems without adding to outlays, and take the necessary steps to improve warehouse efficiencies without reducing the value-added services that customers expect now and in the long term. Sales Representative - Chino Hills, CA Liberty Mutual Group Chino Hills, CA When items are received to be put away, the staff members scan a bar code on the box. The bar code when scanned reveals information about the box's contents. Items from the box are scanned and results are compared so discrepancies are immediate obvious. The software then directs warehouse staff to put away items into a suitable location. A self storage warehouse can provide a breathing space when there is a lack of space in your own house. There is an unbelievable amount of items that can be stored there right from used bikes to old toys, your large CD collection, cribs and baby furniture for future use, excess furniture and even vehicles, and for boat storage too when you are out of town and need a safe environment for your latest acquisition.
