Thought of the Day

A flying shoe has become the defining moment of George W Bush's presidency. It was aimed at and meant for Bush junior only. It was not intended as an insult to the American people. I have letters from readers that share with me this sentiment. The real insult is to have a geek like Bush leading a great democracy like the USA.
Americans must have heard all the possible jokes about the flying shoe. I have a good Arab joke that needs some explaining: After the shoe incident in Baghdad Arab leaders decided to hold their press conferences in mosques (Muslims take off their shoes before entering mosques to pray).

I live in the United States in the Washington DC area. Regarding the shoe-hurling incident: millions of Americans support the actions of Mr.Muntadhar al-Zeidi and support a pardon on his behalf. Throwing shoes at any country's president is not a nice thing to do, but in my opinion Mr. al-Zeidi did the necessary thing, the courageous thing, the truthful thing. Mr al-Zeidi helped millions of us --of all races, religions, classes-- to relieve the tension and anger we've held toward the madman-clown president, whose name I can no longer bear to utter. Mr. al-Zeidi has lit a special candle for us this holiday season. Thank You.
